Voter Registration - CAP and the Democratic Party at the annual Elk Grove Western Festival

Hi everyone,

Just a reminder that the annual Elk Grove Western Festival is coming up this weekend.  This annual event is always a lot of fun...good weather, good times and a wonderful opportunity to get out and talk to voters!

The Democratic Party Voter Registration Booth under Capitol Area Progressives Democratic Club will be at Elk Grove regional park on Saturday, May 3rd and Sunday May 4th. Please let your friends know about the democratic presence and try to get their involvement as well. We will be selling items for the Sacramento Democratic Central Committee .

REMEMBER - Elk Grove encompasses Congressional District 3 (candidate Dr. Bill Durston) which overlays Assembly District 10 (candidates Alyson Huber & Jim Cook) and Assembly District 15 (Joan Buchanan).

LATEST NEWS!

In case you haven’t heard, California has registered nearly 1 million more Californians since 2004. Republicans lost nearly three percentage points, dropping from 35.67 percent in 2004 to 32.84 percent in April.

“The Democratic voter registration train in California continues to accelerate, while the Republican train has jumped off the tracks,” Senator Art Torres (Ret.), Chairman of the California Democratic Party, said today regarding recently reported voter registration numbers.

According to the California Secretary of State’s latest report of voter registration, between January 22, 2008 and April 4, 2008 California Democrats added 170,918 voters to the rolls, Decline to State voters increased by 26,532, and Republicans lost 8,759 registrants.

“183,189 voters registered during those 73 days, and 93.3% of them are Democrats. This is a number not seen since the days of Watergate in the mid-1970s,” said Torres.

There are now 6,920,324 Democrats registered to vote in California, 43.5% of the total number of registered voters. 5,220,666 voters are registered Republicans, 32.8% of the total. Thus Democrats outnumber Republicans in California by 1,699,658 voters.

As of April 4, 2008 Democrats have 469,700 voters more than they had at the same time in 2004, while Republicans are 109,870 below their 2004 numbers. In November of 2004, Democrats outnumbered Republicans by 1,374,907.

“I credit our local Democratic organizations all over California for many of these registrations and the political climate where the vast majority of Californians do not want a Bush third term with John McCain.”

In Assembly District 15 (Elk Grove) where Republican Guy Houston is term limited out, where Republican registration outstripped Democratic registration as late as January, Democrats are now ahead by 39.3% to 38.3% and have picked up over half a percent whereas Republicans have dropped by half a point. Democrat Joan Buchanan is a strong candidate for this open seat and is being supported and backed by the Speaker’s Office.

LET’S KEEP THE MOMENTUM GOING!

We will need volunteers to staff the booth and help with voter registration.

If you would like to help the democratic party continue to drive Democratic voter registration numbers up, please let me know...just a few hours of time will make a difference!  Thank you for any time you can contribute. Just contact Cathlyn at dalywood@comcast.net or Peter at pdaly@petronicus.com if you would like to help out this weekend at the voter registration booth...we can also be reached at either 479-5961 or 479-5962.

May 19th is the last day to register to vote for the June primary.

We’ve come a long way...we’re almost there!
