The Moral Issue
June 21, 2005
The Bee claims the memo is hardly proof of President Bush’s duplicity. Seven meeting minutes have been leaked, all of them explicitly implicating the duplicity of both British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Bush.
There is something greater than love of party. There is love of country. This is not a partisan issue; it is a moral issue.
As Richard Clarke and others have testified, the intelligence wasn’t bad. It was manufactured to give Bush an alibi to go to war.
Our brave soldiers will continue to be maimed and killed, all based on lies and a media that perpetuate the deceit, however subtle it may be.
Shame on all of you.

Liberal Bias?
June 2005
Re June 17: Everytime I read a letter that says The Bee has a liberal
bias I wonder “what planet is this reader from?”
Case in point, the June 17 article “ ‘Downing Street memo’ spotlighted in
Congress.”
The opening statement was that “House Democrats opposed to the war...”
gathered when in fact it was not only Democrats but representatives of
military familes, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson (served under President
George H.W. Bush) CIA analyst Ray McGovern and constitutional attorney
John Bonifa, among others.
There were 122 congressional signatures (not “about 100"), and 560,000
signatures from U.S. citizens on the petition.
The Downing Street memos are in truth actual minutes of several different
meetings that took place within Tony Blair’s Cabinet and cited direct
conversations and quotes from Bush’s cabinet.
The media blackout of this story is a frightening example of the media’s
control over what will be reported/revealed to the American people and a
despicable display of the levels they will go to to protect this
administration.
How many more soldiers have to die or be maimed before the American public
opens their eyes and demands accountability and an end to this unjust war?

Conservatives Need to be Educated
RE Liberals vs Bush November 21 claims that liberals should educate themselves by reading the Weekly Standard displays outrageous ignorance.
The Weekly Standard is written by Bill Kristol, founder of a neoconservative movement “Project for a New American Century (PNAC). PNAC members include Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, Cheney, Bolton, Richard Perle, William Bennett and Jeb Bush.
The PNAC plan devised by this cabal of war fanatics proposed a “transformation of the U.S. military into an imperialistic force capable of dictating terms to all nations. It contemplated the use of nuclear weapons pre-emptively to achieve their goals. Since Americans would not be amenable to such a plan, a catalyzing catastrophic event was seen as necessary.
“The process of transformation, the plan said, “is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event—like a new Pearl Harbor.
Hence, 9/11.
The majority of Americans understand that our president intentionally “misled us into war, and continues to falsely assert a connection between 9/11 and Iraq.
It is not liberals who need to be educated. Those that need to be re-educated are those who rely on right-wing radio and neocon propaganda from such sources as the Weekly Standard, Fox News and the Bush administration.

Lungren’s tightening GOP lead
March 2008
Re “Edge shrinks for Lungren,” March 1: Yes, Rep. Dan Lungren, R-Gold River, has been “effective” – in dismantling the Constitution, serving the corporate interests that fund him and stonewalling measures that might benefit ordinary Americans.
In the last few months, Lungren voted against protecting popcorn workers from lung disease, against improving the federal flood insurance program, against affordable housing for low-income families, against restoring FISA oversight of electronic surveillance, against extending the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, against funding the Small Business Administration, against a mining law that would reduce toxic contamination and end giveaways of public lands, against prohibiting job discrimination aimed at gays, against the Child Safety Product Notification Act, against improving work-safety standards for miners, and against the bipartisan College Opportunity and Affordability Act. In environmental matters he got a 3 percent approval rating from the League of Conservation Voters.
What is Lungren for? Well, besides his usual fixation on tax cuts for the wealthy, he still supports torture, as well as the lawless, foolish Bush policies that have mired us in a bleeding war of occupation in Iraq and bankrupted our nation.
Let’s hope that in November voters in the 3rd Congressional District will rid us of this arrogant ideologue .

CAP has volunteered to be the Voter Registration Leaders for the Democratic party in Elk Grove. Whether you live in Elk Grove or not, we need activists like you to help us go door to door in new developments and register people before the Primary in January/February!
We’re also looking for people to adopt their own precinct as well as one additional precinct in Elk Grove. Be a Neighborhood Leader and help build our Democratic base. It is a great way to meet your neighbors and build a relationship with fellow Democrats!
The Republicans have been out in force registering new voters since April so we need to get out there and hit it hard!
How do you get involved? It’s easy, contact the Elk Grove Regional Leader: Cathlyn Daly at dalywood@comcast.net
Elk Grove is the fastest growing city in the United States in cities with a population of 100,000 or more. Elk Grove’s population is currently around 137,000 people which makes it the second largest city in Sacramento County! Why is that important to Democrats in Sacramento and in California as well? Why is CAP excited about this? Lots of reasons! Here’s a few:
1) As of the November 2006 election, only 62,953 people In Elk Grove were registered to vote.
2) As people move into new homes (and there is indeed an enormous amount of new developments) they need to re-register
3) Elk Grove contains two Assembly Districts (10 and 15) and Congressional District 3.
a. Assembly District 10 has two great candidates running for an open seat - one of CAP’s own, Alyson Huber and Jim Cook. The difference between the Republican and Democratic voter registration is 4%. This is winnable for Democrats!
b. Assembly District 15 has 13 Dem candidates running for an open seat. AD 15 has less than a 2% difference in voter registration between Democrats and Republicans. Democrats can win this seat!!! We can make a difference in an entire Assembly District election here in Elk Grove!
c. In addition, the Vice Chair of the Sacramento Democratic Central Committee, Katherine Maestas will be running for Elk Grove City Council!
CAP and other groups will be registering voters in neighborhood door-to-door drives in Elk Grove starting September 22 and continuing every weekend until the Primary!
By giving 4 hours of your time each week, or every other week or even once a month you will help get more Democrats elected to office and bring the changes we so desperately need: universal health care, restoration of our civil liberties, an “end in sight to the Iraq War, among many other things.
Had enough of the Republican incompetence and corruption? Then help us put Progressive Democrats into office!
Join CAP and be a part of a fun and respected team of activists who make things happen!
Join CAP and Be the Change You Want to See!!!
